The recently launched 30 Minute Rapid Antigen Test provides results much faster than the current PCR analysis.

Molecular (PCR) tests detect the virus that causes COVID-19. Antigen tests detect specific proteins made by the virus.

A positive test result shows a very high probability of an infection with COVID-19 and can be confirmed by PCR test.

The Antigen test shows a “snapshot” of the current situation that day and can assist in critical decision making abilities.

Antigen tests can be used for screening testing in high-risk congregate settings in which repeat testing could quickly identify people with a Covid-19 infection.  This can facilitate prevention and control measures, thus preventing further transmission unknowingly, particularly in asymptomatic people.

The specificity of antigen tests is generally as high as most PCRs, which means that false positive test results are unlikely when an antigen test is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
